Sample Holder for Slabs, Wafers, Sheets, Textiles and Films Model:Sample Holder for Slabs, Wafers, Sheets, Textiles and Films

This sample holder is to be used when testing highly thermal conductive slab or sheet samples (with our Slab Measurement Module) that are relatively stiff, such as metal slabs, graphite sheets or laminates, and semiconductor wafers. At ambient temperatures below 400°C, this sample holder is typically applied with our Kapton-insulated Hot Disk® sensor models 5501 and 8563. At higher temperatures, it is typically used with our Mica-insulated Hot Disk® sensor model 5082.
Sample Holder for Slabs
  • The present sample holder consists of two identical, flat and cylindrically-shaped containers that have small bumps on their wall ends. Two identical slab sample pieces with the sensor wedged in between are clamped together with the flat containers, one on each side, with the bumps against the respective sample piece. Sensor fixture and clamping can conveniently be done with the use of our sample holder for solids. The purpose of having the flat containers on both sides of the sample is to ensure the prerequisite of thermal insulation (in this case by air) of the two slab sample pieces during testing. The minimum slab sample diameter that can be used with this sample holder is 70 mm.

Moreover, this sample holder can also be used when testing thermal insulating textiles or thin films (such as silicone films) with thicknesses down to around 300 µm (with our Thin Film Measurement Module). Two identical thin film samples are then clamped to the sensor, one on each side using dedicated slab backgrounds that we supply. These latter consist of two disk-shaped metal slab pieces, each with a diameter of 80 mm and thickness of 2 mm.

The described sample holder and its accompanying background slabs are both made of stainless steel, and can be employed up to 1000°C.
